PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE ACROSS

PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE ACROSS
CSX RR TRACKS AND US 29

The South Fulton CID and City of Fairburn are planning a pedestrian bridge to create a safer crossing for transit riders who are trying to access their jobs along Bohannon Road and Logistics Center Drive.

The rapid growth of warehousing and distribution centers in the City of Fairburn has resulted in an influx of workers who ride transit to work. Often, these workers need to walk over a mile from the US 29 bus stop to their place of employment located on Bohannon Road or Logistics Center Drive. Currently, there is a small median for pedestrians to seek refuge while crossing US 29 from the southbound MARTA bus stop. However, once on the other side of US 29, they must then traverse over the CSX railroad tracks. If a train is blocking the tracks, pedestrians will oftentimes crawl through the idle train just to make it to work on time. There is on average 100 pedestrians per day crossing the railroad tracks near Bohannon Road to get to and from work.

The issue is fully documented both in this video:
