FREIGHT CLUSTER STUDY
SUSTAINABILITY FOCUS

Creating sustainable solutions for local freight

The South Fulton Community Improvement District (CID) is helping the area’s freight network coexist with the local community. That’s why they applied for and won a Freight Cluster Grant from the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC): $310,000 to review the area’s infrastructure and commuting patterns to create a sustainable freight network. The study will focus on a districtwide strategy for:

  • improving workers’ quality of life
  • reducing greenhouse gas emissions
  • improving efficiency in freight transportation
  • enhancing supply chain resilience
  • supporting sustainable transportation practices.

Q5. The project team is expected to send final project deliverables and data files to the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC). Q6. To meet the inventory and assessment needs, will the South Fulton CID provide data inputs for freight patterns, truck trips, or existing infrastructure, or will stakeholders share data inputs through the engagement process and a data management plan? Will it be a combination of both?

A6: The consultant is responsible for gathering relevant data. The South Fulton CID Multimodal Plan and other local/regional plans shall provide some base level data. Consultants working on publicly funded projects in Georgia currently have access to multiple data sets through the GDOT/ARC joint data purchasing program. Additional information about this program is available at https://www.dot.ga.gov/GDOT/Pages/BigData.aspx and https://www.dot.ga.gov/InvestSmart/Documents/DataPurchaseProgram/ObtainDataAccess.pdf.
